We follow K-8 national arts standards, and students at all grade levels are encouraged to cultivate their unique style while exploring techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture and design.
Coursework also includes the study of art theory, art history, and contemporary artists.
“No matter what you choose to do in life, the arts teach us to express ourselves, get through personal challenges, find joy, and stay focused.”
— DAVID BARNARD, BRONX ARTS BOARD MEMBER
Inside the studio
Students explore a wide variety of mediums including oil paint, water color, sculpture, fabric arts, and graphic design.
Throughout the year, students exhibit their work for family, friends, and supporters. In addition, students may be selected to showcase their work in community exhibits such as the Bronx Borough Festival.
In our new state-of-the-art media lab, “Lights Up Studio,” students learn media arts, from video creation and editing, to producing their own news program.
The Middle School Major
Sixth grade students spend a year studying all four arts disciplines in-depth: Theater, Dance, Music and Visual Arts. At the end of the year, they’ll declare a major and a minor, and during the next two years, receive intensive instruction in their chosen fields.
By the end of eighth grade they will have built a portfolio of work, honed their performance skills, and developed disciplined habits for success in high school and beyond.
