Performing Arts
Access to artistic expression has the power to transform lives, and at Bronx Arts, it is a priority that every student has that opportunity.
We adhere to national learning standards of arts education in theater, music, visual arts and dance, and constantly create new learning modules in order to take advantage of the world-renowned arts and cultural experiences offered by our incredible city. All students receive instruction in music, dance, and theater.

“We are not a school with a good arts program, we are an arts school.”
– RYAN MCCABE, MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Music
Students are exposed to the theory and practice of a wide-variety of musical genres including classical, jazz, hip-hop, mambo, salsa and Afro-Caribbean folk music, with opportunity for hands-on practice under the guidance of our accomplished music teachers.
Middle school students take part in Band, honing their skills with a chosen instrument. Regular recitals allow students to showcase their work.

Dance
Young learners are bodies-in-motion, and all grades take part in movement classes that expose students to the elements of dance genres including ballet, jazz, tap, modern dance, and hip-hop. Grades K-5 have a major focus on ballet and Afro-Caribbean Dance (Bomba).
Student dance performances are held regularly throughout the year.

Theater
All students explore the storytelling principles of theater, including acting, singing, dancing, set design, costumes and makeup, and directing. Our end-of-year musical is a long-standing tradition beloved by students, families, friends and supporters.
Recent productions include The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz.

The Middle School Major
Sixth grade students spend a year studying all four arts disciplines in-depth: Theater, Dance, Music and Visual Arts. At the end of the year, they’ll declare a major and a minor, and during the next two years, receive intensive instruction in their chosen fields.
By the end of eighth grade they will have built a portfolio of work, honed their performance skills, and developed disciplined habits for success in high school and beyond.
